Temari (literally translated “hand ball”) is a Japanese folk craft that originated in China and was introduced to Japan five or six hundred years ago. Traditionally, the balls were constructed from wrapped kimono fabric remnants and silk threads. They were made by mothers and grandmothers for children to play with. Nowadays, decorative embroidered temari represent a highly valued and cherished gift symbolizing friendship and loyalty.
In this workshop, you will stitch a basic polystar pattern on a prepared ball. This looks complicated but it is really very easy. You will also learn how to make divisions on the ball and apply the techniques for working a simple geometric pattern and variations. I will also demonstrate the various methods of preparing a wrapped ball so that you can continue to make more temari at home.
The temari kit includes a polystyrene ball, thrice wrapped with wool and cotton and ready for measuring and stitching, perle cotton x2 , metallic thread and illustrated instructions.
Temari kit cost $20.

LETS FACE IT !!!
In this class we will learn the basic components and assembly of a face cane. Because this is usually a weekend class, some elements will be demonstrated and provided in your kit so that a complete face cane can be constructed.
As well as constructing face cane, we will learn how to tweak things to suit your own purposes and we will talk about the different ways you can use the face cane once you have made it. In this class we will be making a cabochon which makes it a PERFECT preparation for the Bead Cuff Class on Sunday!
The photos attached are samples of how the face canes can be used.

TEA BAG SCULPTURE

In this short workshop, you will be able to create either a free form sculptured vessel or a series of small paper pods. This workshop has been developed from a technique I learnt from German artist Ines Seidel, and I have taught this workshop previously at the invitation of the Newcastle Art Gallery with permission from Ines. Once you have done this little workshop, you will be inspired to create your own individual sculptural pieces.
